Myer Mackay Staff are busy raising funds

The Emergency Department team at the Mackay Base Hospital will soon have a special medical device to treat sick children thanks to the staff at Myer in Mackay.
A variety of fundraising activities undertaken by the Myer store team will lead to the purchase of a Panda Warmer for the hospital's Emergency Department. The Panda Warmer is an infant resuscitation unity, used for managing heat loss in children involved in trauma or who are seriously unwell.

Corrie Oates, Community Fund Officer at Myer Mackay said that staff at the store were thrilled to support the local hospital and especially the Emergency Department through their staff fundraising program. “Our staff initiated fundraising activities commenced when we opened Myer Mackay in October 2011 and are on-going.  Our goal is to raise over $5000 this year by hosting activities such as raffles, competitions and staff morning teas sponsored by each department”. Myer Mackay has chosen the Mackay Hospital Foundation as its charity of choice and the funds raised by the staff up until 29 July 2012 will be matched dollar for dollar by the Myer Stores Community Fund.

The Mackay Hospital Foundation has already received over $10,000 in donations from Newlands Coal (an Xstrata Coal operation) and the Glenden Community for the Panda Warmer.  Mayte Sanchez, Manager Mackay Hospital Foundation, thanked the Myer Mackay staff for their involvement and for supporting this worthwhile cause. “We are very happy that the staff at Myer Mackay have taken on the challenge to raise the remaining $10,000 to buy this life saving and vital piece of equipment and for supporting our charity, helping to keep the impact within our community.”

Karen Dyki, Store Manager of Myer Mackay said the store team is really excited by its fundraising initiatives and money raised to-date. “The team at Myer Mackay are so keen and excited to raise money for an asset which will benefit this community and to support a charity that supports health services where we live and work.”
