Mackay Sugar has recently entered into a long term partnership with the Mackay Hospital Foundation, which will see $50,000 provided to the local charity over the next five years. Instigated by Mackay Sugar, the partnership will provide significant support to the Mackay Hospital Foundation’s mission to enhance local health services and initiatives in our community.
Mackay Hospital Foundation Manager Mayte Sanchez said the Mackay Hospital Foundation is thrilled to partner with Mackay Sugar to provide new local health initiatives. “The Mackay Hospital Foundation is the principal, independent, fundraising body of the Mackay Base Hospital. We partner with our community to raise funds to invest in our local health services to have the best possible health care close to home. This partnership with Mackay Sugar allows us to venture outside the hospital walls, to fund extended community health programs and services”, Ms Sanchez said.
Mackay Sugar Communications Manager Lorelei van Dalen said Mackay Sugar is proud to support the Mackay Hospital Foundation’s ongoing efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community. “Mackay Sugar will provide $10,000 to the Mackay Hospital Foundation each year for the next five years under its Community Support Program”.
The first initiative to be delivered under the partnership is an annual ‘Cancer Awareness Day’ community event, to be held this Thursday, 17 May, at Caneland Shopping Centre. The event, involving three information stalls, will see health promotion officers from the Mackay Health Service District provide visitors with valuable information on prevention and early detection of various cancer types, such as Bowel, Breast, Cervical, Testicular and Prostate.
Visitors to the Cancer Awareness Day stalls will also receive a personalised health check calendar, with information on cancer screening and information services available in Mackay, and an entry to win one of two gym memberships, sponsored by City Fitness. The Cancer Awareness Day stalls will be located on ground level, close to the new main entrance of the Caneland Shopping Centre
