The annual Brax Charity Golf Day was held last Friday which raised over $7,000 for the Mackay Hospital Foundation. There were 28 teams of golfers teeing off at lunch time, enjoying a sunny afternoon at the Mackay Golf Club and playing for a good cause.
Inspired by the fantastic care that Allan McLauchlan’s grandson Braxton received at the Special Care Nursery of the Mackay Base Hospital last year, he initiated this annual community event in support of the Mackay Hospital Foundation.
The event main sponsors were the Mackay Golf Club, Harvey World Travel, G&S Engineering, 888 Poker League and Powerhouse Ford, who again donated a New Ford Ranger for the winner of the hole in one shoot out. Unfortunately no one was lucky; Sheldon Upton from the G&S Engineering team came very close, only 10cm separated him from driving home in the new Ford Ranger.
The winner of this year’s Brax Charity Golf Day was the Team Mackay Airport with Phil Clark, Adrian Miles, Robert Porter and Shane Hokins.
“It is great to see that this charity golf day is well supported by local individuals and companies. Everyone spent a fabulous day at the Mackay Golf Club and we are looking forward to organise a Christmas Golf Day this year in December. We are happy to support a local charity like the Mackay Hospital Foundation, where all proceeds are invested into local health services to benefit the whole community.” said Allan McLauchlan, organiser of the Brax Charity Golf Day.
"Last year’s proceeds purchased medical equipment for an open cot for the Special Care Nursery of the Mackay Base Hospital. This year the proceeds of the Brax Charity Golf Day go to the greatest needs of our hospital, which allows us to determine where the funds can make the most impact. We are very happy and grateful that this successful event has become an annual fundraiser supporting the Mackay Hospital Foundation. It is a fine example of partnering with our community to raise funds in support of our local hospital, to ensure that we have the best possible health care on our doorstep” Mayte Sanchez, Manager of the Mackay Hospital Foundation.

The donations received by the Foundation are given to the specialised area or hospital that YOU have chosen. If a hospital or area is not chosen in the MHHS district donations are allocated to ‘greatest needs’.
