Ten-year-old Isabeau Wardle received a framed version of her “Twinkling Tree” artwork (plus a whole lot of cupcakes!) as a thank you for her contribution to this year’s Mackay Hospital Foundation Christmas cards.
Her family travelled from Tieri to Mackay last week to reconnect with Foundation volunteers and enjoy afternoon tea. Staff from Children’s Ward and representatives from Christmas card sponsor Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd also came along to give Isabeau their thanks.
Mum Cheryl said her daughter was so excited to first hear her artwork had been chosen as one of the Foundation’s five Christmas card designs that she burst into happy tears! Isabeau painted the “Twinkling Tree” Christmas card design while in Play Group at Mackay Base Hospital back in July.
Over the past two years, the Mackay Hospital Foundation’s Christmas in July art program has provided countless children with welcome distraction from the mundane of hospital visits. This year’s cards showcase five festive designs by children ranging in age from 7 to 13 years.
Adrienne Burke, Mackay Hospital Foundation General Manager said, “100% of the proceeds of the sale of the Christmas Cards, sponsored by Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, will go to the Mackay Hospital Foundation and stay within our community”.

Foundation volunteers are selling the Christmas cards at Caneland Central, Mount Pleasant Shopping Centre and Woolworths Andergrove on select days throughout November and December. Cards are also available from merchandise boxes displayed at supporting businesses, the Mackay Base Hospital, and the Foundation by phoning 4885 5915 or emailing info@mackayhospitalfoundation.com.au
Local businesses and community groups can choose to sell the Christmas cards over the counter of their workplace, using a Mackay Hospital Foundation donation box and card stand.
