Giving to a local charity is giving back to our community and the impact is being felt right here at home. One person that certainly knows this is John Donnelly, proprietor of the Good Guys in Mackay. He is a big supporter of local charities and one of them is the Mackay Hospital Foundation.
Through the Mackay Hospital Foundation the Good Guys support the Renal Unit of the Mackay Base Hospital. Customers are given a heart shaped token at the checkout, and are invited to place it into the token box for one of their nominated charities. The Mackay Hospital Foundation in support of the Renal Unit, receives a donation reflecting the amount of tokens put in the box.
“It is with great pleasure that we are able to support this important unit of our local hospital, which obviously assists many local people. I know people in our community who have Chronic Kidney Disease and many of them require regular dialysis treatment.” John Donnelly says.
This strong relationship between the Good Guys Mackay and the Renal Unit of the Mackay Base Hospital has been in place for many years. Cash donations over $10,000 have been provided over the last 4 years as well as TVs and white goods in support of the renal unit. The Nurse Manager of the Renal Unit, Jill Butler, said that there are more than 2000 people in Queensland on dialysis and 51 in the Mackay Health Service District. In one third the kidney failure is caused by the damage diabetes does to the kidney. “The Renal Unit very appreciative of the Good Guys’ long term support. All donations have been invested into patient education, equipment and patient services”.
The Mackay Hospital Foundation is looking forward to continuing a strong partnership with the Good Guys in support of patients of the Renal Unit. “We thank John Donnelly and his team for his generosity and community mindfulness. He has chosen a local charity that supports health services in hospital and at home, which benefits everyone who lives here.” says Mayte Sanchez, Manager Mackay Hospital Foundation.

The donations received by the Foundation are given to the specialised area or hospital that YOU have chosen. If a hospital or area is not chosen in the MHHS district donations are allocated to ‘greatest needs’.
All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.
