Mackay Sugar and the Mackay Prostate Cancer Support Group have donated a combined $11,500 to the Mackay Hospital Foundation, for the purchase of prostate surgical equipment.
These generous donations will fund the purchase of a TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate) Tray that will be used in surgery to remove part or all of the prostate gland, and enable more surgical procedures to be performed.
Ms Adrienne Burke, General Manager, Mackay Hospital Foundation said “the funds donated by the Mackay Prostate Cancer Support Group and Mackay Sugar will enable the Mackay Hospital Foundation to purchase additional equipment for use by the hospital’s visiting urologist, Dr Muhammad Kahloon”.
Prostate cancer accounts for approximately 30 per cent of cancers diagnosed each year in Australian men, with around 120,000 men with prostate cancer in Australia.
